Looking to the future of medicine, The IU Health System, which is linked to the Indiana University School of Medicine, is planning the consolidation and replacement of two current high acuity hospitals into a new Academic Medical Center in Indianapolis. The quaternary care facility for inpatient and outpatient services creates a new model of clinical care that is flexible and adaptable for change in an ever-increasing uncertain future.
The clinical facility provides a centralized center for high acuity and specialized care for centers of excellence including cancer, transplant, neuro, cardiology, urology, orthopedics and general medicine services. The organization and design of this facility will allow IU Health to adapt to future changes and migration out of the clinical care setting to both alternative and home care, as well as migration into the facility for increasingly more acute patients needing multidisciplinary care. The new campus redefines the model for a new urban academic medical center anchoring the northwest core of downtown Indianapolis, stimulating economic growth and broad community development by enhancement wellness while celebrating the tripart mission of clinical care, medical education and research.
