IIDA Names Winners Of 2021 Student Design Competition

Commercial interior design association IIDA (Chicago) has named the winners of its 2021 Student Design Competition, which highlights the work of emerging professionals in the interior design industry.

This year’s competition brief challenged participants to design an imagined renovation of a primary care clinic focusing on preventative health within an existing hospital building.

The 2021 winners are:

  • First place: Nicolas Swaner, Marymount University, Skyline Internal Medicine Primary Care project
  • Second place: Soyeon Kwon, Student IIDA and Yi-Ting Hsieh, Pratt Institute, AURA Primary Care Clinic project
  • Third place: Farzaneh Akhavan Tabatabaei, Woodbury University, DÉJÀ Healthcare Clinic project.

Winners received awards of $2,500, $1,500, and $750, respectively.

Entries were judged by a panel of design professionals, including Edwin A. Beltran, principal designer at NBBJ; Amy Mays, interior design director at HDR; and Natalie Thomas, national accounts director, healthcare, at OFS and Carolina, which was the sponsor of this year’s competition.
