UTHealth Continuum of Care Campus for Behavioral Health Tops Out In Houston

UTHealth Continuum of Care Campus for Behavioral Health (Houston), part of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), and Perkins and Will (Houston), an interdisciplinary, research-based architecture and design firm, have reached a project milestone with the topping out of the facility.

Upon completion, the 220,000-square-foot facility will include 264 new inpatient beds, clinical units, support services, and education and research spaces. It will comprise two separate buildings, spanned by a glazed bridge, and incorporate courtyards and outdoor spaces.

The design aesthetic is inspired by natural light and nature with a warm material palette. Inside each unit, a daylit central living space is surrounded by patient bedrooms. Plans also include a therapy mall, activity room, and a communal dining facility that look into the internal courtyard through floor-to-ceiling glass.

The project is slated for completion in late 2021. The project team also includes Vaughn Construction (contractor; Houston).
