Non-profit hospital Parkview Medical Center (Pueblo, Colo.) has completed the expansion of its emergency department, according to an article in The Pueblo Chieftain. The emergency department remained open during the expansion.
The 18-month project added 13,000 square feet to the emergency department with a goal of increasing patient care efficiency and now includes three trauma rooms as well as two CT scanners and ultrasound and radiology equipment.
The project involved relocating the adjacent radiology department to another area of the hospital; adding new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and medical gas systems; and renovating the façade of the enclosed entrance. A new helipad is expected to be operational next month and will replace an existing one located about a block and a half away from the hospital.
The expansion is part of the hospital’s five-year, $70 million master plan, which also includes an on-site comprehensive cancer center and a new orthopedic facility. The plan also included the recent completion and opening of an outpatient surgery center and the addition of intensive care unit beds.
