Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif., plans to modernize its obstetric and neonatal facilities, which will increase capacity for up to 20 percent more births.

The renovation to the hospital’s existing 1990s-era West building will include a new labor and delivery unit with 14 private labor rooms, a specially designed antepartum unit with nine private rooms, 51 private postpartum rooms, 64 private neonatal intensive care rooms, three obstetric operating rooms, and an updated lobby.

The project will be funded by $100 million from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation (Los Altos, Calif.).
