Massachusetts General Hospital Renovates Acute Psychiatry Services Unit

Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston) opened a newly renovated and expanded Acute Psychiatry Service unit to treat pediatric and adult patients experiencing psychiatric, neuropsychiatric, and substance-use emergencies.

The unit is located within the emergency department and includes 20 dedicated patient rooms (up from the unit’s previous six patient rooms) with spaces for children and their families.

The project was scheduled to open in the fall but was moved up to address a rise in patient volume.
