Hoefer Welker VA Projects Earn Green Globes Certification

Two facilities designed by Hoefer Welker (Leawood, Kan.) in partnership with U.S. Federal Properties (USFP; Kansas City, Mo.) have earned Green Globes for New Construction certification. The nationally recognized green rating assessment and certification system is administered by the Green Building Initiative (GBI; Portland, Ore.) and evaluates projects in seven areas, including project management, site, energy, water, resources, emissions, and indoor environment.

The two U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) outpatient clinics are located in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Lubbock, Texas. Situated on more than 17 acres, the 95,000-square-foot certified Chattanooga facility includes daylighting features, Green Globes-standard air ventilation, moisture and mold mitigation strategies, and an overall focus on health and wellness throughout the building. During construction, the Hoefer Welker team also enlisted a specialist to relocate an on-site colony of more than 200,000 bees rather than exterminate them.
