The Hospital For Sick Children Plans Campus Redevelopment

The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids; Toronto) is planning a 10-plus year campus redevelopment in Toronto.

The three-phase plan, called Project Horizon, will add a new family patient care tower and a Level IV neonatal intensive care unit, increasing the number of critical care beds at the hospital to 430. Three operating suites (ORs) will be added, bringing the total to 19 OR spaces, and a new emergency department (ED) will offer 51 treatment spaces, 12 more than the current capacity. Replacing two of the oldest buildings on the campus with the new Peter Gilgan Family Patient Care Tower will also be included in the plans.

The project will also add a central garden and courtyard, playgrounds, and communal spaces, which will have access to the outdoors and views of the city skyline.

Stantec (Philadelphia) and KPMB Architects (Toronto) are providing architectural design services for the project.
