Mental Health Campus Breaks Ground In California

Cordilleras Health System (San Mateo County, Calif.) broke ground on a mental health campus in San Mateo that will include four, single-story mental health rehabilitation centers and a three-story co-housing building to support transitional clients.

The rehabilitation buildings will have identical footprints and each include 16 beds for long-term mental care. The cohousing building will feature a commercial kitchen on the ground floor and single bedrooms for up to 57 residents on the upper two floors with shared living space. The buildings will be arranged around a central open space with sheltered outdoor seating, community gardens, and recreation courts.

The project will be designed to achieve net-zero carbon emissions and include solar panels on every roof, including the site parking.

Skanska USA will provide construction and development services for the project.

The $105 million project is scheduled for completion in December 2023.
