The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Plans New Inpatient Tower

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (Columbus, Ohio) is planning a new hospital inpatient tower to provide critical care, transplant, neurosciences, surgery, and women and infants care services.

The 1.9 million-square-foot, 26-story inpatient tower will be adjacent to The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center—Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute and will include up to 820 private critical care and medical/surgical beds; 60 neonatal intensive care unit (ICU) bassinets; imaging; and 24 operating rooms (ORs) including two hybrid OR suites. A 1,887-space parking garage, outdoor terrace, conservatory space for patient and visitors, dry research space, and helipad are also planned.

The project team includes HDR (architect; Omaha, Neb.), Walsh/Turner Joint Venture (construction manager; Columbus), and BR+A (engineer; Boston).

The bed tower is slated to open in early 2026.
