Coronavirus Surge Facility To Open In California

In an effort to provide relief to county hospitals, Tulare County in California has announced that the Porterville Developmental Center (PDC; Porterville, Calif.) will reopen as a surge facility for COVID-19 patients, according to an article in Action News.

The Porterville Alternative Care Site will have capacity for 20 to 25 patients with the ability to expand to 123 patients.

In the spring, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers converted six of PDC’s empty buildings into care units for less-acute COVID-19 patients from hospitals and prisons.
