Southern Maine Health Care (Biddeford, Me.) and Maine Behavioral Healthcare (Portland, Me.) are opening two new behavioral health units at the Sanford Medical Center (formerly Goodall Hospital), in Sanford, Maine, according to an article in Bangor Daily News.
The two projects include the renovation of a 24,000-square-foot unit and adding 40 new beds across two floors, as well as the opening of a five-bed emergency department acute psychiatric (EDAP) unit.
Clinical support area on each floor will include rooms designated for dining, noisy/quiet activities, group therapy, and private consultations with clinicians. The renovation will also focus on providing access to daylight and nature views throughout the unit.
The EDAP unit will be located off the ED and include five patient rooms with a toilet and shower as well as a place to store belongings during evaluations.
The project team includes Margulies Perruzzi (architect; Boston), Array Architects (behavioral health designer; Boston), PC Construction (construction manager; South Burlington, Vt.), Fitzmeyer & Tocci (MEP and fire protection; Woburn, Mass.), Simpson Gumpertz and Heger (structural engineer; Waltham, Mass.), and Cavanaugh Tocci (acoustical consultant; Sudbury, Mass.).
