The Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI; Dallas) is inviting users of the FGI Guidelines for Design and Construction to comment on revisions and additions featured in its draft 2022 documents. The public comment period, which includes revisions to the 2018 FGI Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospitals, Guidelines for Design and Construction of Outpatient Facilities, and Guidelines for Design and Construction of Residential Health, Care, and Support Facilities, will close on September 30, 2020.
The multidisciplinary, 139-member 2022 Health Guidelines Revision Committee (HGRC), the body responsible for the content of the guidelines, has worked to update the documents to reflect changes in the health and residential care industries and provide clarifications that can ease adoption and compliance. Following are some of the changes proposed for the 2022 FGI Guidelines documents:
- hospital guidelines, including updated appendices for the behavioral and mental health risk portion of the safety risk assessment
- outpatient guidelines, including removal of clear floor area requirements for several patient care stations, with clearances determining their size
- residential guidelines, including significant revisions to spatial requirements for resident rooms in skilled nursing communities.
Complete drafts of the guideline documents and information about preparing comments can be found here. FGI’s online comment platform can be accessed here.
