SoundMind Behavioral Health Hospital LLC has broken ground on a new facility in Broken Arrow, Okla., for general and geriatric inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services.
Situated on 14 acres, the 55,000-square-foot facility will house 72 beds housed in three nursing units of 24 beds each. Each nursing unit will also include a seclusion room, quiet room, and a nurses’ station.
Spaces for patient assessment and admitting, an electroconvulsive therapy procedure room, commons area/activity space, visitor rooms, dining room, staff offices and administrative areas, and outpatient group therapy areas are also planned.
Design features will include visual monitoring technology for patients when they’re away from their rooms and ligature-resistant hardware, doors, plumbing, and other building components specified for mental health environments. Ample daylight and connections to nature with expansive windows and access to the outdoor courtyards will also be provided. Artwork was selected to enhance a therapeutic, calming, and restorative atmosphere within patient spaces.
The project team includes Dewberry (architecture, interior design consultant, and structural engineer; Fairfax, Va.), EDA+FKI Engineers (MEP; Tulsa, Okla.), Wallace Engineering (site/civil engineer; Tulsa), and Cowen Construction (general contractor; Tulsa). The project is slated for completion in 2021.
