Dignity Health And Kaiser Permanente Open Temporary COVID-19 Hospital

The former St. Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles is being turned into a temporary surge facility with 266 beds.

In partnership with the State of California and the County of Los Angeles, Dignity Health in San Francisco and Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, Calif., have established a temporary surge facility with additional beds and expanded ICU capacity for patients who contract COVID-19.

The facility is located on the campus of the former St. Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles and will operate as a dedicated referral hospital and will not have an emergency room or accept walk-in patients, according to a Kaiser Permanente statement.

It is expected to open in phases, starting on April 13, and ramp up to accept more patients with a projected capacity of 266 beds as physicians and staff are hired and supplies and equipment are secured.
