Health Central Hospital, part of the Orlando Health organization, is a 440,000-square-foot acute care hospital in Ocoee, Fla. To further serve the region, the hospital provided a full continuum of healthcare services through its Health Central Park facility, a 228-bed nursing home incorporating memory care and rehabilitation in nearby Winter Garden, Fla. Originally constructed in 1967, this aging building was awarded a West Orange County Healthcare District Grant for a significant replacement.
As part of the plan, the new Orlando Health Center for Rehabilitation was to be situated on the 85-acre Health Central Hospital campus, offering a state-of-the-art 110-bed skilled nursing environment to serve Alzheimer’s/dementia residents, post-acute/rehab patients, and hospice residents adjacent to the 171-bed hospital.
A primary goal of the project is to redefine settings of excellence in accountable, affordable, and adaptable resident and patient environments as key components in a continuum of integrated care and improved personal lives. The collaboratively conceived solution features a four-story rehabilitation center housing 110-beds licensed as skilled nursing. The building comprises two top floors with 60 post-acute/rehab patient rooms canted toward views and natural light; a main level-wing of 10 hospice resident beds; and an open-yet-secure, 40-resident ground-floor household model for memory care.
The project, designed by KTH Architects, Inc., was completed in June 2019.
